On 17 November 2021, the Commission varied Origin Energy Electricity Ltd’s electricity generation licence authorising the replacement of the gas turbine Unit 3 at the Quarantine Power Station on Torrens Island.
This is the second stage of a four stage upgrade at the site. The result of this upgrade will increase the capacity of the Unit 3 turbine from 20.4 megawatts (MW) to 29.5MW.
The Commission undertook a round of public consultation in relation to the application and received no submissions from stakeholders.
The Commission assessed Origin Energy Electricity Ltd’s application for an electricity generation licence against the relevant provisions of the Electricity Act 1996 and the Essential Services Commission Act 2002 and determined that all relevant criteria under those Acts have been satisfied.
