The Commission has received an application from Blyth Battery Pty Ltd for an electricity generation licence to operate a 238.5MW Battery Energy Storage System, located approximately 7km from the township of Blyth.

Final
On 16 July 2024, the Commission approved the issuing of an electricity generation licence to Blyth Battery Pty Ltd (ACN 663 615 263) as trustee for the Blyth Battery Trust (ABN 86 483 340 404) (Blyth Battery Pty Ltd) for the operation of a 200MW battery energy storage system, located approximately 7km west of the township of Blyth. The licence was formally executed on 13 August 2024.
The Commission undertook a round of public consultation in relation to the application and received no submissions from stakeholders.
The Commission assessed Blyth Battery Pty Ltd.’s application for an electricity generation licence against the relevant provisions of the Electricity Act 1996 and the Essential Services Commission Act 2002 and determined that all relevant criteria under those Acts have been satisfied. It has therefore approved the application.
