SA Water’s current generation licence authorises the operation of generating plant at various sites. SA Water is seeking to vary its licence to authorise the operation of the following:

  • a 7.04 MW ground mounted solar  ground mounted solar, battery storage, biogas and diesel generating plant located at the Christies Beach Waste Water Treatment Plant.

Please note, the application to operate the additional generating plant located at the Happy Valley Water Treatment Plant (which forms part of the variation application), will be published for public consultation separately.

In assessing an electricity licence variation application, the Commission considers the application against the relevant licensing provisions set out in the Electricity Act 1996 (Electricity Act). It will also have regard to its primary objective under the   (Esc Act), being the protection of the long-term interests of South Australian consumers with respect to the price, quality and reliability of essential services, and other factors as they apply to the Commission's role as an economic regulator of the South Australian electricity industry.

In making its assessment, the Commission considers advice from the Office of the Technical Regulator and the Australian Energy Market Operator. Matters related to health and environment protection are regulated under separate legislative frameworks.

The application is subject to a public consultation period closing on 27 May 2021. The Commission welcomes submissions on any matters relevant to the application.

Please refer to the variation history in the licence for further information on variations approved by the Commission, pursuant to the criteria in the Electricity Act and the ESC Act.
