The Commission has received an application from the University of South Australia for an electricity generation licence to operate:
• a 279.3 kilowatt solar generating plant, located at the City West Campus, Adelaide, and
• a 1.6 megawatt solar generating plant located at the Mawson Lakes Campus, Mawson Lakes.

On 30 May 2024, the University of South Australia notified the Commission that it wished to surrender its electricity generation licence. In providing this notification, the University of South Australia requested that the six-month notice period required by the Electricity Act 1996 be shortened. The Commission considered this request and agreed to shorten the required period of notice, with the surrender effective from 14 June 2024.
Final
On 12 June 2019, the Commission issued an electricity generation licence to University of South Australia to operate:
• a 279.3 kilowatt solar generating plant, located at the City West Campus, Adelaide, and
• a 1.6 megawatt solar generating plant located at the Mawson Lakes Campus, Mawson Lakes.
The Commission undertook a round of public consultation in relation to the application and received no submissions from stakeholders.
The Commission assessed University of South Australia’s application for an electricity generation licence against the relevant provisions of the Electricity Act 1996 and the Essential Services Commission Act 2002 and determined that all relevant criteria under those Acts have been satisfied. It has therefore approved the application.
