Further info

On 3 December 2024, Astronergy Solar Australia Pty Ltd notified the Commission that it wished to surrender its electricity generation licence. In providing this notification, Astronergy Solar Australia Pty Ltd requested that the six-month notice period required by the Electricity Act 1996 be shortened.

The Commission notes the request was made in order to take advantage of the class exemption granted by the Commission from the requirement for sub-5 megawatt (MW) generator operators to hold a licence. Astronergy Solar Australia Pty Ltd will continue to operate its sub-5MW generating plant.

The Commission considered this request and agreed to shorten the required period of notice, with the surrender effective from 10 December 2024.

Application history

Final - 16 October 2020

The Commission has varied Astronergy Solar Australia Pty Ltd’s electricity generation licence, authorising it to operate an additional four generating plant.

The Commission undertook a round of public consultation in relation to the application and received no submissions from stakeholders.

The Commission assessed Astronergy Solar Australia Pty Ltd’s application for a variation to its electricity generation licence against the relevant provisions of the Electricity Act 1996 and the Essential Services Commission Act 2002 and determined that all relevant criteria under those Acts have been satisfied. It has therefore approved the application.
