On 15 February 2023, the Commission varied the electricity generation licence (licence) of AGL SA Generation Pty Ltd, authorising the operation of the Torrens Island Battery Plant. The variation adds 250 megawatts of generation capacity to the AGL SA Generation Pty Ltd licence, bringing its total licenced generation capacity to 1.53 gigawatts.

The Commission undertook a round of public consultation in relation to the application and received no submissions from stakeholders.

The Commission assessed the application for a variation made by AGL SA Generation Pty Ltd against the relevant provisions of the Electricity Act 1996 and the Essential Services Commission Act 2002 and determined that all relevant criteria under those Acts have been satisfied. It has therefore approved the application.
