On 29 May 2013, the Commission received an application from Origin Energy Retail Limited requesting a gas retail licence, specifically to provide liquid petroleum gas (LPG) retail services in Roxby Downs, Victor Harbour, Renmark, Port Lincoln, Wallaroo, and Cape Jaffa.

The Commission undertook a round of public consultation in relation to the request. In making its assessment, the Commission sought technical advice from the Office of the Technical Regulator.

The Commission assessed Origin Energy LPG Limited's request for a LPG distribution network, having regard to the provisions of the Gas Act 1996 and the Essential Services Commission Act 2002 and determined that the approval of this request is consistent with the objectives of those Acts.
