The Commission has received an application from IBA Wilpena Solar Pty Ltd for an electricity generation licence for the operation of a 0.54 megawatt diesel and solar generation plant, located at the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park, which is currently operated by AGL South Australia Pty Ltd.

On 30 January 2019, the Commission issued an electricity generation licence to IBA Wilpena Solar Pty Ltd as Trustee for IBA Wilpena Solar Trust for the operation of a diesel and solar generating plant with a nameplate capacity of 0.54 megawatts (MW).
On 7 March 2019, the Commission, together with the Minister for Energy and Mining, approved IBA Wilpena Solar Pty Ltd’s request for an exemption from the requirement to hold an electricity retail and distribution licence under the Electricity Act 1996 (Electricity Act).
The Commission undertook a round of public consultation in relation to the application and received no submissions from stakeholders.
The Commission assessed IBA Wilpena Solar Pty Ltd as Trustee for IBA Wilpena Solar Trust’s application for an electricity generation licence against the relevant provisions of the Electricity Act 1996 and the Essential Services Commission Act 2002 and determined that all relevant criteria under those Acts have been satisfied. It has therefore approved the application.
