On 24 December 2024, Blue Lake Milling Pty Ltd notified the Commission that it wished to surrender its electricity generation licence. In providing this notification, Blue Lake Milling Pty Ltd requested to shorten the six-month notice period required by the Electricity Act 1996.
The Commission notes that the request was made in order to take advantage of the class exemption granted by the Commission from the requirement for sub-5 megawatt (MW) generator operators to hold a licence.
Blue Lake Milling Pty Ltd will continue to operate its sub 5MW generating plant under this exemption.
The Commission considered this request, agreed to shorten the required period of notice, and the surrender is effective on and from 20 January 2025.

The Commission issued an electricity generation licence to Blue Lake Milling Pty Ltd for the operation of a 1.2 megawatt (MW) (maximum plant capacity) Rotating Engine Generating System with a total export limit of 1MW, located at 71 Pigeon Flat Road, Bordertown.
The Commission undertook a round of public consultation in relation to the application and received no submissions from stakeholders.
The Commission assessed Blue Lake Milling Pty Ltd application for an electricity generation licence against the relevant provisions of the Electricity Act 1996 and the Essential Services Commission Act 2002 and determined that all relevant criteria under those Acts have been satisfied. It has therefore approved the application.
