The Commission has received an application from IBA Wilpena Solar Pty Ltd for an exemption from the requirement to hold an electricity distribution and retail licence under the Electricity Act 1996. IBA Wilpena Solar Pty Ltd provides electricity to three commercial customers.

On 7 March 2019, the Commission, together with the Minister for Energy and Mining, approved IBA Wilpena Solar Pty Ltd’s request for an exemption from the requirement to hold an electricity retail and distribution licence under the Electricity Act 1996 (Electricity Act).
The Commission undertook a round of public consultation in relation to the application and received no submissions from stakeholders.
The Commission assessed the application against the relevant provisions of the Electricity Act and the Essential Services Commission Act 2002 (as they apply to the Commission's role as an economic regulator of the South Australian electricity industry) and determined that that all relevant criteria have been satisfied and an exemption is appropriate.
