Monitoring energy retail competition - historical statistics
Statistical reports
Energy retail competition (also known as full retail competition) commenced in South Australia for electricity on 1 January 2003 and for gas 28 July 2004.
The Commission monitored and reported on the development of the electricity and gas retail market through six monthly statistical reports from commencement until October 2006. This monitoring was undertaken in accordance with the Commission's September 2004 final decision paper "Monitoring the development of energy retail competition in SA", which provided an integrated framework for monitoring the development of competition in the SA electricity and gas (energy) retail markets.
The Commission's last transfer schedule was released in October 2006.
The AEMO (previously NEMMCO) reports transfer statistics monthly (retail transfer statistical data)
Small customer switch rate data from December 2003 until December 2012 is available on the Commission’s website on the regulatory performance reports webpage. From 2013, this data is available on the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) website on its retail statistics page.
