Energy pricing
Energy contracts
Under the NECF, there are two types of energy
contract available in South Australia: a standard retail contract and a market
retail contract.
If you are unsure which type of energy contract you
are on, check with your energy retailer.
Energy price comparisons
If you would like to find out how to get a free and
independent comparison of generally available electricity or gas contracts you
can access the Australian Energy Regulator’s energy price comparison service by
contacting the ACCC’s Info Centre on 1300 302 502.
Energy retail market price deregulation
On 18 December 2012, the South Australian
Government announced
its decision to deregulate the energy retail market in South Australia.
This means that the energy standing contract price
setting role previously performed by the Commission ceased on 1 February 2013.
As a result, retail energy contracts are no longer price regulated in South
Australia.
The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) will continue
to determine the revenues or prices that network businesses in South Australia
can charge. Further information on the AER’s network price regulation role is
available on its website at www.aer.gov.au
