The Commission has approved the retailer component of Origin Energy's gas standing contract prices tariffs to apply for the period 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011. The approved tariffs incorporate a separate Residential Energy Efficiency Scheme (REES) pass-through amount.

On 11 May 2010, in accordance with section 2.6.1 of the Determination, Origin Energy submitted its Statement of Approval to the Commission setting out the retailer component of standing contract prices that would apply for the period 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011.

The Commission has approved Origin Energy's tariff adjustment statement on the basis that it demonstrates compliance with the relevant provisions of the Price Determination, and has made a decision on the REES pass-through amount to apply from 1 July 2010, having regard to the outcomes of the actual cost review conducted by the Commission.

As the retailer component comprises around 45% of an average residential gas bill, it is estimated that the approved Origin Energy's 2010/11 retailer tariffs (inclusive of pass-through amount) will add approximately $4.20 (GST exclusive) to the average annual gas bill for a residential customer consuming 24,000 MJ annually.

The remaining 55% of an average residential gas bill is comprised of Envestra’s distribution network tariffs as approved by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER).

The Commission has calculated the indicative impact of these new charges on residential customers with different levels of consumption, and identified the individual components that make up the respective annual bill.
