Licensing
The Commission is responsible for administering the licensing regime that
applies to gas entities, as established in the Gas Act 1997 (Gas Act).
It is responsible for issuing, varying or transferring licences to participants
in the gas supply industry where those participants engage in:
- the distribution of gas
- the retailing of gas - limited to Liquid Petroleum Gas retailers

A distribution licence may be required from the Commission for entities who operate whole or part of a gas distribution system. |

A retail licence may be required from the Commission for entities who sell reticulated LPG to customers. |
Where retailers operate in the national market, a retail authorisation or exemption is required from the Australian Energy Regulator (AER).
