Retail Market Rule Amendments
Until 1 October 2009, the Gas Act 1997 provided for the establishment of Retail Market Rules (RMR) to facilitate the operation of the gas retail market in SA, and for a retail market administrator, to operate the RMR. The Minister for Energy approved the initial set of RMR in June 2004, prior to commencement of the gas retail market on 28 July 2004. Pursuant to the Act as it was prior to 1 October 2009, the Commission licensed Retail Energy Market Company Ltd (REMCo) as the Retail Market Administrator in South Australia, and was responsible for approving any amendments to the RMR proposed by REMCo.
From 1 October 2009, the South Australian functions carried out by REMCo transferred to the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) a single national market operator for gas and electricity. AEMO is not required to be licensed in respect of its operations in South Australia and the Commission is no longer responsible for approving any RMR amendments proposed.
As a matter of historical record, the Table below details the various RMR amendments proposed by REMCo and approved by the Commission up until 30 September 2009.
