2012-13 Annual Gas Retail Tariff Adjustment

15 Jun 2012 Gas

The Commission has approved Origin Energy's Statement of Approval for 2012/13 gas standing contract prices on the basis that it demonstrates compliance with the relevant provisions of the 2011-2014 Gas Standing Contract Price Determination. The Commission has separately considered Origin Energy's application for a carbon price cost pass-through amount to apply from 1 July 2012.

As the retailer component comprises around 40% of an average residential gas bill, it is estimated that the  Origin Energy's retail tariffs (inclusive of pass through amounts in relation to Australian Energy Market Operator's Full Retail Contestability fees and Origin Energy's carbon price cost pass-through amount as approved by the Commission for 2012-13 will add approximately $37 (GST exclusive) to the average annual gas bill for a residential customer consuming 21,000 MJ annually.

The remaining 60% of an average residential gas bill is comprised of Envestra’s distribution network tariffs as approved by the Australian Energy Regulator.

The Commission has calculated the indicative impact of these new charges on residential customers with different levels of consumption, and identified the individual components that make up the respective annual gas bill.
